It was about 2am and the rest of my team was asleep. I was having trouble sleeping so I got up and went outside. I looked up at the stars in the sky and plainly asked God, “What am I doing here?” On the first few days of the trip I thought I had really lost sight of why we were there. But that night, I heard God speaking to me a timely reminder that I was on the trip not for myself, but ultimately I was there to do missions and serve God by serving the people there. It was a good “slap in the face” which helped me to see much clearer how God was working in my own life as well. That night I heard God telling me, “I love you so much, and I’ve brought you here so that you can love these people like I have loved you.”
